In a stunning slap in the face to the leftwing's anti-globalization crowd, 2005 Nobel Peace Prize winner Mohamed ElBaradei stated that globalization is his one hope for peace in the world.
ElBaradei said the world faced "threats without borders" that could not be tackled by building walls, developing bigger weapons or dispatching troops, but only through multilateral co-operation.
Those threats are weapons of mass destruction, terrorism, organized crime, armed conflict, poverty, infectious disease and environmental degradation, ElBaradei said.
But he said he was hopeful because globalization was advancing interdependence between nations and "making war more and more unacceptable as a way to resolve our differences." (my emphasis)
Amazing, this is something that conservatives have said for years, give people the opportunity to better themselves through hard work and free trade and they'll be less likely to take up arms against their fellow man as it would take them away from their own self-interests.
We see this taking place in Iraq now that Saddam is gone, as well as former leftist countries such as Costa Rica, Panama and most recently Nicaragua. Elevation of freedom and personal liberty, elimination of corrupt dictatorships and a willingness of the American people to share the wealth through free trade is our only hope.
I wish the liberals in the U.S. were as enlightened as Mr. ElBaradei
